A book so captivating and powerful is hard to find but 'The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo' holds its cards very well. It is a historical fiction written by American Author Taylor Jenkins Reid. Set in the era of the mid and late 20th century, It tells the story of a Hollywood legend Evelyn Hugo. Evelyn is a diva, a household name, and a personality untouched. She is the woman you lay your eyes on but can't take them off of her. She is strong, gorgeous, talented, and a bitch above all. Having lived a life many can only dream of the 79-year-old Evelyn finally decides to reveal it all in an interview with an unknown writer, Monique Grant. The book also expands on the themes of LGBTQ, love, betrayal, and loss.

POSITIVES OF THE BOOK

  1. The language and dialogs - As a contemporary fiction 'Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo' is easy to read. It does not have very rigid and confusing elements of English. But that does not mean that it is mediocre in any sense. It contains a good balance of technicalities and emotions that touch readers. The dialogs are written very well as per the needs of the plot and character.

2. The main character - Evelyn as the main protagonist is strong and knows how to get things done. She is not afraid of getting her hands dirty to protect her people and she is unapologetic about it. She wears her heart on her selves doesn't matter how cruel and cunning it is.

3. The supporting characters - The supporting characters are very well written. They carry their distinct personalities and add a much-needed spark to the story.

The book presents life in its raw state - the good, bad, and ugly. There is a lot that can be learned and unlearnt through the characters. A slow read at first but hard to put off as it unfolds the secrets of Evelyn's life.
